Christmas cake

This marzipan Christmas cake consists in fruit cake covered with a layer of white marzipan. During the Christmas season it is possible to find in stores already made Christmas cakes covered in marzipan.

This Christmas cake illustrates a typical Christmas setting consisting of snow, pine trees, log cabin and a single snowman. All the colors used on this cake are seasonal colors of brown, green and red which contributes to give a holiday feel to the cake.

The marzipan snowman was made using the same white marzipan used to cover the cake. The snowman consists of two small marzipan spheres placed on top of each other. All the ornaments such as the buttons, scarf, nose, eyes, hat and arms were placed on the snowman at a later stage.

The marzipan log cabin started off as a rectangular piece of sponge cake. The brown log cabin components were made individually and gradually stuck together on the sponge cake starting from the lower part. The roof consists of a layer of brown marzipan which was rolled and cut before being placed on top of the sponge cake. As a final touch some white edible food dusting was brushed over the roof of the cabin to give the impression of a light snowfall.
