Easter cake - Easter basket cake

This Easter marzipan cake consists in fruit cake covered with twisted strips of light brown tinted marzipan. These have been placed round the cake to resemble a basket texture.

All the basket contents are made out of marzipan, they consist in marzipan Easter eggs, flowers and leaves. All theses marzipan shapes have been placed on top of the cake only after the basket shape was made.

Although this cake contains a variety of colors special attention has been taken to ensure that all colors were in harmony with each other. The marzipan eggs are the predominant cake decorations and they come in purple, blue and pink. All flowers are small and yellow so not to take too much attention off the eggs.

Marzipan Easter eggs

When decorating cakes it is important to consider the seasonality of the subject. In the northern hemisphere Easter is associated with spring, this determined the choice of flowers which are daffodils and yellow roses. Though the leaves are made of different shades, all the greens selected are in harmony with the spring season.
